Stephen Schieberl's comments:

on Stun Guns

The problem is not the tazer, but tazer abuse.  Tazers are an alternative to deadly force where a deadly threat is present.  They should not be used merely for convenience in non-life threatening situations.

on New Drug Czar

Current drug laws are antiquated and most exist out of fear and ignorance.  Narcotics which affect the reward system in a way which results in addiction deserve their bans.  But there are enormous benefits to the responsible use of psychedelics and marijuana.  It's time for the government to educate themslves on these substances and re-evaluate what should be banned and what should be regulated.

Therapeutic use of psychedelic mushrooms and LSD saved me from suicidal depression and addiction problems.  It's a shame to see these tools punished.

on Sam Scandal

Sam isn't giving an example that says, "you can lie about anything and not be disciplined". If you use him as an example, he's saying, "you can lie about your sex life and not be disciplined." Which is totally right in my mind. It's not my employer's business what I do in my personal and sex life, and I don't have to confess to anything when asked. I do my job and do it well.

Sam Adams did a great job while he was lying. He's told the truth. Nothing's changed in his ability to do his job.

Nigel Jaquiss should step down. It sounds like he's convinced himself that Sam Adams is guilty of a crime. He's not. There's going to be a useless investigation that will determine that. Remember, innocent until proven guilty.

Guess who else lied during their campaign? EVERY political candidate! Look at Sam Adams track record, not his personal life. He's done great things for this city and will continue to do so. This relationship is absolutely irrelevant to his role as mayor. It was no one's business and the issue should never have been pressed.

on Measures 57 and 61: Crime and Punishment

Exactly. I'll never vote for a measure with mandatory sentences, and I definitely won't vote for one that lumps violent crimes such as assault, robbery, etc, with "crimes" where the only victim is the criminal. Drug-related crimes will be reduced if you resolve addiction. Prisons are essentially incubators for criminals.

on Measures 57 and 61: Crime and Punishment

I'm voting "no" on both. Selling ecstacy is not the same crime as stealing $10,000 or more from the elderly, and does not deserve the same punishment. Mandatory sentencing puts good people who've made some bad decisions into a prison system that will only further ruin their lives. Each case sentence should be decided by a judge.
