on October Ideas
I would like to hear a show on the Oregon Judicial system and it?s total lack of accountability and responsibility at times.
When I was 7 years old, my ?guardian? mother filed for adoption. While my biological father signed away his parental rights to who I call mother, my biological mother decided to come down from Fairbanks, Alaska and contest the adoption. This is a woman who I have had no contact with since my 1st birthday.
When the Oregon judge was confronted with what would be in the best interest of the child, this judge actually said
?We are not interested in what is best for the child; we are interested in who has legal right to this child.?
My biological mother had just been diagnosed with schizophrenia. She was not stable on her medication, and this became very apparent by her actions in court. Still, the judge awarded ?guardianship? to the woman I had always known as my mother and the state of Oregon forced a 7 year old child to mandatory visitation rights in Fairbanks, Alaska. I will not go into details, but because of the Oregon courts choice to not take into account what is best for the child, I was abused by an unstable schizophrenic who had just started taking heavy medication.
When I decided I was psychologically ready to relive this and wanted to take action against the courts, I was told that I couldn?t. That the only way to challenge a court is to take the matter up in another, higher court. I am now 33 years old and this matter is not something that can be brought to a higher court.
Courts are run by people, and people can make mistakes. But there has to be accountability with people in power. From my understanding of how the court system works, there is very little accountability.

on Faith in the Northwest
I am a proud pagan. I have been for some time now. The professer from Vermont, I believe, has a flaw in his thinking. There are some religions that do not have a common "place of worship." I have several friends who are also pagan. Once a month, we go out to a nice wooded area and discuss what it is to be pagan, what it means to each of us, and how we feel about it. If you look and the Portland/Salem area, you will not find one Pagan temple around. How does he judge pagans? How does he judge people who belong to a religion but can not attend services because there is no house of worship?
Pagan in the northwest has been hard for me. I think most pagans will agree with me that it may not be the best of idea's to claim your religion out in the open. I personally have been called names, slapped, and even attacked by people simply because of what I believe in. There are still alot of misconceptions about paganism. 9/11 was a direct cause of alot of misconceptions about the muslem faith. There are still some people out there that believe, honestly, that all muslims want to destroy America. We know that is not true. The same misconceptions about pagans exist: That pagans worship the devil, that pagans sacrefice people and/or animals. I believe that education needs to happen before all people of all faiths can live in piece. Once that happens, I also believe alot of the violance out there will go away.

My former room mate was a part of "team quest". His attitude was very bad. He would get into bar fights, he would try to fight me, he liked violence. This does go aginst everything that the caller said was part of a professional fighter.
I am totally agianst violence in any form, and this includes boxing, kick boxing, and so called "mixed martial arts". We should be teaching people how to fight, we should be teaching people about peace. I am not even a fan of so called "Pro-Wrestling" as this does show children it is ok to fight.
I also think that the idea of a man "is built to fight" is a concept that should be reserved to people who are the mental age of a 12 year old. A christian believes that God created man in his own image, does that mean God was built to fight? If He is, that scares me.
