on The Rise in Domestic Violence
I am amazed at how the conversation can easily be switched where the woman is abusing the guy. The abuse fell short of physical in my case - but not by much - but all of the clues like control, emotional abuse (withhold affection and/or sex - hint at visiting old lovers, etc.) and especially skillful manipulation via charm and sexiness.
I would like to see a show on how there are women who abuse men, how they can be spotted early enough, and how to get support to leave.

on Reforming the Initiative Process
Something needs to be done to reform our initiative system. I found myself looking through the voter's pamphlet to first see who proposed the ballot measure. Then, once I found either Sizemore or Mannix listed, I didn't even bother to read the measure but simply marked it down as a "No" vote. This should not be the case and would not if there was a better system in place.
I highly recommend reading at least the Executive Summary of the City Club of Portland's report. It is a well-written and even-handed document that provides valuable information and a set of logical suggestions backed by solid arguments.
Hopefully our new Oregon legislature will address this issue and provide a new and better initiative process.

on Political Ads
The Smith TV ad that interests me the most is the one where he claims he cares about Central and Eastern Oregon and implies that Merkley only cares about and gets support from Portland and the northern Willamette Valley communities. Questions: 1. Does Smith only broadcast this TV ad in Central and Eastern Oregon?; 2. Does splitting the electorate this way actually work to Smith's advantage?; and 3. Isn't Smith supposed to represent all of Oregon?
