on School I.D.

I'm a little blown away that the mixed race kid said Black people act annoying and he doesn't want to be percieved that way and no one has challenged that damaging stereotype.

That's a dangerous precedent and it needs to be further discussed.

on Weighty Issue

What do your guests think about the new menu labeling policy introduced by Multnomah County Commissioner Jeff Cogen introduced a few months ago? The policy would add calories to the menus of chain restaurants.

on The White State

It is more than frustrating, at times, to live in a place where very few people look like you. I heard Black people being referred to as "Negros" a few days ago and I look around for defense, and no one spoke up. I spoke up for myself and was dismissed. Sometimes it's sad, sometimes funny, and sometimes just scary.

on Primary Conversations: 5th Congressional District (R)

Is this conversation making anyone else sick? First, the right to choose in Oregon is legal and has been for years. The fact that this is a campaign tactic is scary and disgusting. Second, there doesn't seem to be proof that this happened so why are we allowed to continue to discuss it?

on Politics for the Under 35 Set

I'm newly 30 and no kids, so those issues don't apply to me now. I enjoy the new style of politics because it revolves around honesty, admitting when one is wrong, and not just telling folks what they need to hear via soundbites.
We don't have kids yet for a few reasons but if we wanted to, we couldn't afford it. How can Oregon make the tax structure more fair so we can have a house, a kid and a life and not eat beans for weeks?

on Clinton and the Generational Gender Divide

I'm not voting for Hillary Clinton. I'm 30 and I want to support a woman, but I don't think Hillary reflects my values. But as a Black woman, I can't ignore the role that plays as well. But being a Black feminist doesn't mean knee-jerk votes for women or people of color. It means supporting women's choices, whatever choice they make. After all, that's what feminists and people of color fought for, choices in their own lives to progress forward.

on Graffiti, Gangs and Growth

I'm a little concerned about what I'm hearing. Are you saying "rap music and dance moves" mean gang behavior? Or is what I hear that African American culture is somehow indicative of danger? I feel like you are walking a very fine line.
