on One Billion Served?

It is GREED trumping Democracy, just like it has begun to here in America. Don't think the politicians don't get something from the businesses that make mad money from China. The lower standards of Chinese made goods have already killed people, pets and the environment. Now we have government unable and unwilling to stem the tide and correct trade imbalances with China. None of the current career politicians running for the Presidency can or will do anything about it. Mark my words - we could have 5000 people die from goods made in China in a single MONTH and Obama, McCain nor Clinton would do anything about it. Too much at stake too much money in campaign contributions from big businesses and their leaders. If we as a nation are willing to go to war in Iraq at a time we did not have the resources (Afghanistan) so the VP can ensure his family fortune and those of his cronies are increased (Halliburton) than of course we will continue to sell the American public down the river in favor of Communist China. After all, the average American will continue to go to Wal-Mart and buy communist made goods, feed their pet?s tainted pet food and use hygiene products that can kill or maim them. As long as we do that, where is the impetus to change? This whole shows premise of is the NW positioned to capitalize on business in China is foolish, and overly optimistic. America will NEVER balance trade with China without leveling the playing field, which the tyrannous government in Beijing will not allow.
Support Democracy not Greed. Buy American. Write your congressional representatives.
Save Democracy and freedom.

on One Billion Served?

Yeah, that sure is the qualit of life we should all strive for: oppresive government, unfair trade practices and still a communist politi. Yeah, that is what we want here in America, no right to assemble, no right to surf the 'net, reduce the value of each human.

on Obama and Race in Oregon

As a rare minority in Oregon, born and raised in Hawaii I would say that yes, racism still exists in Oregon. Both ways, the Caucasian population discriminates against minorities and virtually all minorities discriminates against Whites.
Oddly, that isn?t the problem. The problem is until people let go of the anger that Rev. Wright displays and the white supremacists up in eastern Oregon and Idaho cling to we will continue to have these issues.
As for Obama?s speech ? it is pretty, flowery but not once at any point did it declare how Obama plans on bringing about this change he so often mentions in his sermons. He says he disagrees with Rev. Wright on this issue, but he credits the same man with bringing him into the Christian faith from his Islamic roots. He baptized his children, married him to his wife, but then states he fundamentally disagrees with his ideas? Sounds like politicking, no matter how flowery his delivery.
My bigger concern is the crowd gathered at the Memorial Coliseum right now, the atmosphere is more like a Billy Graham concert crossed with a music festival. The Obama campaign is a cult of personality, with no substance, no taking a stand on anything except he once spoke out against the Iraq war. This is truly scary, because he has displayed poor judgment, the one thing he is selling to the public. Rev. Wright and Rezko are excellent examples of this judgment.
Gov. Richardson is expected to announce his support of Obama today. If Obama would somehow win and become President, let?s see what position Richardson receives. No different than any other politician, which reinforces what is true and the Obama campaign has been desperately trying to convince America isn?t: Obama is just like all the other politicians, just will much less experience.

on Snitching on Dad

Why should ANYONE, ESPECIALLY police officers be able to report drivers anonymously? Why don't we have mandatory re-tests EVERY time the DL expires? Of course it is a hassle and time consuming, but while everyone THINKS they can drive, my time working in and driving ambulances prove otherwise.

on Top Court Approves

While I do worry about the effect this might have on smaller parties, as an independent voter I am pleased with this. Any step in weakening political parties is a good step. We MUST have open primaries in Oregon and soon. Where do I sign that petition?

This overwhelming majority in the Supreme Court clearly shows the court believes the will of the people is greater than the desires of the political parties.

Our country would be a much better one without political parties and the abolishment of ALL political parties should be a goal we strive for as a nation. Talk about divisive; merely having parties creates an automatic division within government.

on Memorize This

While I believe we have become too dependent upon search engines and the internet, our cell phones phone list and our email address book, I also do not believe there is intrinsic value in memorization of poetry for the sake of memorization. Students with better memorization skills will do better in school; it is how I passed all my classes, because I did not study. This doesn?t mean memorizing a date for history, or a poem for English will actually help the student. Critical thinking is much more important. In the case of math there ARE benefits to memorizing simple formulas, multiplication tables, etc. Shouldn?t we be teaching students, especially ones growing up in this information age how to THINK not just memorize?

on Burning Questions

I seriously doubt the FBI is willing or even capable of investigating if this could be owner induced. Much easier to blame the ELF and throw resouces at that, as it fits with the "profile" of the FBI and their prefered targets.

on Brokering a Better Loan

I wonder why everyone points to mortgage brokers, when it is very well known that BANKS are the real culprit, even Angela Martin and the state senator who was on acknowledge that Washington Mutual would not be affected by ANY state law, and neither would Wells Fargo and all other major banks, all of whom have wholly owned subsidiaries that have been proven to have provided the vast majority of these ARM?s. If people believe ARM?s and pre-payment penalties are the problem, why not just outlaw those? Much simpler solution.
Also, asking someone to determine if I can afford something reminds me a lot of fascism. It doesn?t sound like Angela Martin is AT ALL interested in helping home owners, it sounds like she wants to help rich, WHITE home owners. As a minority who does NOT own a home, everything she has said seems to limit my ability to eventually purchase a home.

on The Klamath Example: How to Tear Down a Dam

Why is farming in this area so important that those involved are willing to sacrifice both the salmon and the renewable energy the hydropower provides? I grew up on a farm and I understand the feelings of farmers, but if the area requires that much irrigation, it is not suitable for farming in the first place.
