on The Meaning of Marriage

Excelent question. On the other side of the coin, if as Maggie says "the goal of marriage" is to procreate, why don't we nullify childless marrages? If you don't have a kid within 3 years of the wedding you have to break up and find someone more fertile? Lets also make tubal ligation and vasectomies illegal. Since I had my tubes tied, is my marrage pointless?

on Oregon and Alcohol

My husband and I own and operate Bushwhacker Cider in SE Portland. We opened in September 2010 with the cidery and a cider bottle shop. The OLCC has been increadably helpful in our licencing process, especially because our combination of a working cidery and bottle shop/bar is unique in this country. One challenge that we have encountered is the lack of differentation between hard cider and wine or beer. We are licenced as a winery, taxed as a brewery, and regulated as a restaurant. We have six ciders on draft but can not fill growlers, despite the fact that often the beers we have on tap have a higher alcohol content than the ciders. We have discussed with some of the other four cideries in Oregon that wouldn't it be nice if there were regulations specifically for cider.

on Free Speech or Hate Speech?

The guy was a jerk plain and simple. His flyers should just be taken down and he should be told not to do it again. And then lets all ignore him (maybe have security keep an eye on him). We all know that “White Pride”, “White Power” and the swastika are now associated with racism and hatred whatever the original meaning of the words or symbols. Language changes over time and certain words are given power. He can say whatever he likes about his intentions, but he used words and symbols designed to get a reaction from others. We are all (myself included) aiding in his quest for attention. Stop interviewing him and talking about him. Let him fade into obscurity where troglodytes like him belong.
