on High Speed Momentum

As coastal residents who take a bus from Tillamook to Union Station, and the train to Seattle several times a year, we find the use of public transportation to be more efficient, more relaxing, and more "green" and cost effective then driving and paying for parking.  Obama is right, lets reduce our oil-demanding footprint and improve public transportation.

on Measure 74

While caring for a dying relative who had a legal card and needed marijuana to stimulate his appetite and dull his pain, I, a State of Oregon social worker, was reduced to illegally seeking out the drug from underground dealers, jeopardizing my job.  With less than three months to live, there was no time to grow it myself.  Dispensaries would have allowed us to safely and legally obtain his medicine.

on Rebirth of Local Journalism

I quite agree. I live in Bay City on the Coast and find that none of the PDX broadcast newscasts are newsworthy, even if it bleeds. Journalists, especially those on the "streets" are highly educated and I believe they would rather do reporting that informs of more than the latest murder in PDX.  What about more town hall type inquiries. For example, recently Washington had a ballot issue regarding same sex benefits and S.W. Washington is limited to PDX news. I am sure plenty of people would have been glad to speak to both sides of that issue.

Jounalists want to work, but I'll bet many of them do not like to run to a murder scene at three in the morning to interview grieving family members. I feel sorry that they can not report news that might make a difference in those cases - such as how a community can re-make itself.

on Cannabis Clubs

I was a caregiver for a relative dying of pancreatic cancer.  his use of marijuana calmed his anxiety and helped him reduce the naseau enabling him to eat.  As a State Social Worker I was reduced to criminal activity to obtain a supply, endangering my career and job.  He didn't have the time for me to grow it, but no one should be placed in that position.  Legal sources are critical for these patients and their families.   Becky
