Part of the reason that human trafficking is the second largest illicit industry in the world is because people in the destination countries (like the US) "refuse to believe that this issue is worse in [my city] than elsewhere in the country."  This kind of disavowal is exactly the reason that the modern-day slave trade thrives here. There are more slaves in the world today than there have been at any other time in history.  Your attitude only exacerbates the problem.
