You are allowing your misunderstanding of an educational philosophy to taint your imagination of what the rest of our lifestyle looks like. Is a one-size-fits-all expectation applied on their distinct learning styles and timetables? No. Does this mean that they don't have boundaries? Absolutely NOT!

Unschooled children volunteer, have rules, take out the garbage, make dinner, write letters to grandma on a regular basis; it's not a no direction ever about anything situation.
