Nationalize the current health care system or make the health insurance companies and the for profit hospitals not for profit organizations. Standardize doctor's fees at reasonable rates.
Find the best features of all the health care systems in those countries that provide better health care than we do for less money and copy / improve what they do.
Nationalize the system, but keep as much local control as possible.

on Green Buildings
There lots of developers that don't do green buildings. Will they change or continue doing what they have always done?
I am very concerned about the appearance of buildings. Green building designers often want to have an ICONIC building that shouts to the neighborhood, "I am better than all you old buildings". How do we get designers to do buildings that are compatible in design and scale with the area in which they build?
How do we retrofit existing buildings to have the same attributes as green buildings? Part of sustainability is making the best use of the resources we have.

on Within Bounds
The City of Portland conducted a visioning program for 1.5 years to determine public opinion about what Portland should be in 30 years. Several subjects relate to population growth and related issues. There are summaries of this information and extensive reports on over 100 issues on-line at: http://www.visionpdx.com/reading/inputsummary/
This information will be used to form The Portland Plan which will plan the future of Portland over the next 30 years. There will be much public discussion about this plan.
The various subjects in the VisionPDX work would make good subjects for future "Think Out Loud" programs. More public exposure and thought about these subjects would be timely and useful. Many changes must be made and it can only happen if the public understands and is willing to help implement them.

I would also recommend reading the book "The Great Work" by Thomas Berry for defining one of our fundamental problems and "Plan B, 3.0" by Lester Brown for solutions to these problems.
I will look forward to a very interesting program if you are able to address these issues.
Thanks and best wishes,
Don
