on The Viability of LNG

On a recent trip overseas i saw that most of the gas stations have LNG fuel for vehicles.  In vehicles LNG is less efficient than gasoline or diesel, but the savings in MPG seems to more than make up for this.  Engine  conversion is a cheap and easy process, almost within the capability of a backyard mechanic

Is there any discussion of increasing the infrastructure to support LNG as an alternative fuel for fleet and private use?

on The Viability of LNG

LNG Tankers do not run on "high sulfur content diesel fuel," they are propelled by waste LNG from their own tanks.  It is my impression that they are essentially large thermos bottles that keep the LNG safely under pressure, and thereby in a liquid form; and they are NOT the floating bombs many people presume.

Please be advised that i am an unabashed fan of anything that safely and responsibly expands the maritime industry in Oregon.

on Legislating from Home

If you hire someone to paint your house, do you expect him to stay in his shop where the paints are? Or do you want him to come to your house where the job is?

on Legislating from Home

This may not be the stupidest idea I have heard discussed on TOL, but it is in the top 5.

I am writing from Malheur  County, the part of Oregon that is really part of Idaho.  As a voter, i have hired, along with my fellow citizens, Mr Bentz to represent my interests in Salem, and I do not believe that he can do that from Ontario.  His job is done face to face, not over the electronic ether.

on The Changeover: Secretary of State

A hot issue for me is LEGAL Immigration. One of the duties of the State Dept is the issuing of Visas to foriegners who visit, also thse who wish to immigrate in al legal and contributive fashion to our great nation. i know that the screening is an issue of Home Land Security, but is there any way for her department to streamline the process. How will her Department handle the constitutional abomination of IMBRA, the International Marriage Broker Act?

i would also like to hear more discussion about the Law of the Seas Treaty.

The question was asked if i voted for Ms Clinton. i gave her verbal support during the the primary race, not agree with her values or politics, but because i felt that the guy i was supporting would have been able to beat her! However, i do feel that the Pres-Elect has made a good choice for Secretary of State, and Ms Clinton will make a good representitive of my country to the Community of Nations.

on Cutting School

Several comments,
i live in Vale OR, "the part of Oregon that is really in Idaho."

My kids attend school in the Harper School district, maybe not the smallest distrct in the state, but surely in the 10 smallest. For a number of years they have been on a 4 day a week schedule. In this rural district, this of course means a 20% reduction in transportation costs.

i remember from years past districts discussing Year Around School. Instead of a 3 month summer vacation, this would give a larger break every quarter.

i have been corresponding with a teacher in Cebu, Philippines, and i am currently planninng my vacation time to correspond with their Summer Break, which is April and May. This is a break for students, but not necessarily for the Teachers, who are still expected to report to work during the break. (There is obviously a slow-down on the teacher's work load...) In addition to a longer school year in the Philippines, High School Graduation occurs in Grade 10, rather than Gr 12, which is the standard here.

on Reporting The News

i do not have time before the end of the boradcast to check the first ammendment of the United States Constitution, but i do not think that Journalists are mentioned. Free speech is a right of all citizens, therefore reporting is a right of all citizens. For that reason, it is incumbent upon public bodies, or those working on behalf of the public, to ensure openess to all observers. Do i have an answer for Lake Oswego? Perhaps, but it will have to wait.

on Asian-American Identities

First let me express my appreciation and and admiration of the various Asian cultures that i have experienced and those that i have learned about. In fact, only yesterday i returned from a vacation in Cebu, Phillipnes.

i would like to forward my hope that the terms ____ American will begin to fade. i am an American of European and Mexican Descent. The America that i spent 20 years of my life defending is a place of beautiful cultural diversity, which i am glad to see we are finally beginning to celebrate. Our differences give spice to our nation, but our unity as Americans is our strength. Racial Labeling is form of the Racial Prejudice that has the potential to destroy this country. i hope that we will learn to be Americans first, while still acknowledging (and celebrating) the cultural background of our ancestors.
