on State of the City
Public transit:
In this time when more people are losing their jobs, and need to rely on public transit, why is the city cutting bus service? We have record ridership at this time.
Bikes:
Are you moving forward to make bicycle only streets? We need safe places for families to ride and commute.

on The Race Has Just Begun
The Clintons already have a huge amount of power and money, they will still have great influence without the presidency. I was a Ron Paul supporter, I will definitely vote for Obama.
McCain is so out of touch from the average person, he is a very rich man without the daily worry that most of us have.
To vote republican out of spite for Hillary is wrong; the world is watching who we vote for, McCain will be a sign to them that the US has truly lost its soul.

on Guarding Against School Violence
All of this talk is just feeding into the culture of fear. Yes these things have happened, they will continue to happen despite our best efforts. We should simply take reasonable precautions for safety.
The paranoia reminds me of how I feel working with people that have brain tumors. Every time I get a headache I am sure that I have a brain tumor, which is not the case. Just because one school out of tens of thousands has an incident does not mean that your school will have an incident.
Violent crimes have decreased, do not buy into this frenzy to distrust your fellow human beings.

on Rural Office Politics
I grew up in Coos Bay and moved to Portland in early adulthood. The rural areas of Oregon are considered when issues are discussed in Salem. The problem is that rural Oregonians seem to view the resources of the countryside as theirs to exploit. Additionally the mentality of rural Oregon is an us versus them attitude which is simply not the case, we all work together in Oregon. Rural areas benefit from urban areas (hospitals and business to name two benfits).
I just returned from 5 days in rural Oregon, to me it looks like there is plenty of wealth. The real problem is that the lifestyle of the rural Oregonian needs to change, and those that live there do not want that change.
