Think Out Loud Production Assistant

Duties:
This volunteer position involves assisting with the daily production of OPB radio's daily current affairs talk show, Think Out Loud.
Duties include greeting guests, helping with last minute prep for the show, screening calls, preparing background research, pre-interviewing potential guests, writing web posts, pitching show ideas and, potentially, producing entire programs.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in  journalism, or a related field, is necessary.
  • Must be professional and willing to try new things.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skilled at working in an office environment with a team.

Commitment: This is a 3-5 day a week role, between 5 and 8 hours each day. In your application materials, please outline what your preferred schedule would be.

State of Wonder Production Assistant

Duties:
Provide production, administrative, and content support for OPB's weekly arts show, State of Wonder.

Duties include pitching story ideas, preparing background research, pre-interviewing and interviewing guests and sources, creating engaging social media content for various platforms, writing blog posts, greeting guests and, potentially, producing entire segments.

Qualifications:
- Have a genuine interest in the arts and culture.
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Organized, punctual and willing to try new things
- Photography skills are a plus
- Experience managing an organization or professional social media presence is a plus.
- Experience with any of these would be a plus: film, radio production, interviewing, research, arts in the Oregon/SW Washington region.

Commitment: 20-40 hours a week for 10-12 weeks.

News or EarthFix Production Assistant

Duties:
The volunteer/intern in this role has the opportunity to participate in background research, assisting reporters in the field, conduct interviews, write and voice stories for OPB News on the radio and on the web.

Interns and volunteers are part of our newsroom. Our editors assign and edit the stories and help train up and coming journalists. This position lasts for about 3-4 months, 3-5 days a week.

We have a position in our newsroom as well as EarthFix.

Qualifications:
- Degree or coursework in journalism, writing, or experience in related fields.
- outgoing and willing to try new things.
- must have good writing skills.
- experience editing and recording sound is a plus.

Commitment: between 20-40 hours/week for 3 months

Digital Content Production Assistant

Duties:
Assist with production of OPB's digital content for various platforms. Duties may include pitching stories and working on assigned stories, adding digital assets to the CMS for various stories and platforms, editing copy, updating social media, contributing skills in any of the following: videography, photography, digital video and photo editing, GIS, and more.

Interns and volunteers are part of our newsroom. Our editors assign and edit the stories and help train up and coming journalists. This position lasts for about 3-4 months, 3-5 days a week.

Qualifications:
- have a storytelling background (coursework or experience is journalism, publications, English, news writing, literature writing, etc.)
- Multimedia experience - capturing and/or editing photos/video
- experience with front-end development work using html, css, and javascript.
- experience with adobe creative suite is a plus.


Commitment: between 20-40 hours/week for 3 months

Oregon Art Beat Production Assistant

Tasks would include research, logging tapes, organization and fact checking. Additional tasks could possibly include creating additional written content or post-production work.

Qualifications:

  • Must be internet savvy, comfortable doing phone research.
  • Experience with video production, especially logging tapes and field production, a plus, as well as experience on a production team.
  • Must be a team player, able and willing to collaborate with good communication skills.
  • Good research reference skills and motivation to be detail-oriented, as well as experience fact checking a plus.

Commitment: Between 15 and 30 hours each week, preferably 2 or 3 full days, for a period of 10-12 weeks.

opbmusic Production Assistant

Duties:
This position supports the work of opbmusic, OPB's online and multimedia music service. This role has the opportunity to learn about and assist with opbmusic studio sessions, web content and 24/7 music channel.

Duties may include:
- assisting with video production
- audio production
- writing for and producing media for the website
- organizing the music library
- promotion and assisting at events

Qualifications:
- experience with music or video production preferred
- experience with broadcast systems, voice work, photography, music reviews and/or writing is helpful

Commitment: These various duties may be divided into separate volunteer/intern roles or combined into a bigger role. The time commitment is between 15-35 hours/week for Summer term

KMHD Station Management Assistant

Duties:
This position supports the work of KMHD Jazz Radio. KMHD is a community-supported radio station that showcases the best of jazz and blues. This role has the opportunity to learn about and assist with music library cultivation and organization, production, on-air engineering, promotion and public relations.

Qualifications:

  • 3 yrs of education toward a related degree i.e. communications, radio, mass communication, journalism, etc.
  • radio station experience is a plus
  • technical aptitude
  • interest in jazz

Commitment: Between 15 and 30 hours each week for 3 months.
