Cuba Libre: An Oregon Art Beat Special, takes you through the evolution of a musical - from a dance workshop, to national auditions, through an intense seven-week rehearsal to the show’s opening at Artist Repertory Theatre. This special, filmed over the span of a year, uncovers why it takes up to five years to develop a major musical. This special airs Thursday, Oct. 15 at 8 p.m.
In this extra, set designer Christopher Acebo talks about the design process for Cuba Libre. The band, Tiempo Libre, is a strong element throughout the musical. But there was also a need for part of the story to unfold without the band being present. Here’s how they did it.
