The Bloomsday Celebration 2013 honors Irish novelist James Joyce with a presentation by Father Sean Michaelson, entitled,  “The Irish Literary Revival, Yeats, Joyce and Beckett.”  Father Sean Michaelson is an Oregon Jesuit priest and former Chair of the English Department, University of San Francisco and Professor of Irish literature.

This presentation is sponsored by Portland Chapter of The Ancient order of Hibernians and Kells Irish Restaurant and Pub at no charge.

Bloomsday is celebrated annually on June 16th  in Dublin and elsewhere. Bloomsday commemorates and celebrates the work of the Irish author James Joyce during which the events of his novel "Ulysses," set on June 16, 1904, are relived. The name "Bloomsday" is derived from Leopold Bloom, the novel's  protagonist. In Dublin, Bloomsday readings and dramastisations from the novel take place at various stages by costumed performers, as well as performances of traditional Irish music and merriment.
