Fritzwa w/ ThankUSoMuch
3552 N Mississippi Ave.
May 17, 2018, 8 p.m.
This soul-drenched sound doesn’t quite sit in a neat box of influences. Hailing from NYC’s Lower East Side, with West African heritage, Fritzwa’s lifelong experience has been constantly enveloped in artistic inspiration; from Broadway to poetry, jazz to traditional, childhood dance classes and piano lessons, to balmy summers listening to Hot 97.
She says, “I see art in everything,” and it’s something she translates into her music — including her self-written album, Avenue |A|.
Whether she’s finding painful beauty in break-ups, or creating melodic soundscapes from the sounds of NYC’s subway, Fritzwa’s creativity and musical talent shine through in a beautiful way.

Thankusomuch is the result of some of PDX’s very best young musicians bonding over a shared interest in pop, soul, R&B, jazz, and politeness. Whether they’re paying homage to the soul acts of decades gone by, playing inventive arrangements of modern pop-tunes, profusely thanking audience members and venue staff, or showcasing melodically tasteful and harmonically advanced original songs, Thankusomuch is all about groove and gratitude. Led by bassist Alex Koehler and guitarist Josh Clark, Thankusomuch includes some of the best local talent to round out their powerful sound. Featuring vocalist Jimmie Herrod, pianist Paul Paresa, drummer/percussionist Steven Skolnik, trumpeter Noah Simpson, and alto saxophone/flautist Kristof Schroeder, Thankusomuch has been featured at the Soul’d Out Music Festival, and at some of the best venues in the Northwest.
