The Chuck Israels Jazz Orchestra returns to Jimmy Mak’s to celebrate the renowned bassist/bandleader’s 79th birthday. The appearance of this extraordinary ensemble in Portland’s best jazz venue is always a highly anticipated event. The orchestra’s last performance at Jimmy Mak’s was nearly a year ago, and they presented their newly recorded CD Second Wind: A Tribute To The Music Of Bill Evans, to a packed house.

Since then the recording has garnered high praises from jazz critics, including a rare 4 ½ star review in Downbeat magazine. Now the orchestra returns to Jimmy Mak’s with a new and equally thrilling program, performing Chuck’s adventurous and beautiful arrangements of jazz standards and his own compositions, presenting the orchestra’s soloists and singers with challenging surroundings that elicit the highest level of creativity and integrity.
