A $302,000 grant to boost Oregon’s regional news coverage has been awarded to Oregon Public Broadcasting and the Oregon Community Foundation.
The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation awarded the grant through its Community Information Challenge program.
The grant will help to strengthen and expand a cooperative network of regional newspapers and other news sources across the state.
The money will also be used to support journalists in OPB’s bureaus in Central and Southern Oregon.
The two-year project is intended to foster a “better informed and more engaged citizenry” in the state as well as bridging the rural-urban divide.
