Fifty years ago Thursday, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Food Stamps Act into law. In Oregon today, more than one in five people rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Act Program, or SNAP.

I’ve been reporting on hunger, poverty and food stamps for a series that OPB will air later this fall. To mark the 50th anniversary of the Food Stamps Act, I’m tweeting a series of quotes, facts and pictures from my reporting. Here’s a roundup of my tweets for the day:
