Voters approved the construction of a new high school in a May bond earlier this year. Along with that larger high school, the district is creating two smaller schools that will focus on expeditionary learning and career building.

There are three options for the new schools: They’ll either lease separate classroom space, take over the current Bend High School, or be integrated into existing high schools.

“I think the best option would be if they just rented separate space for the small high schools,” said Sierra Abbott, a current student at Bend Senior High School.

“Integrating it in a school would be kind of hard there’s be like a ‘oh, they don’t go to OUR school kind of stigma about it.”

The district is gathering community input on the three options in meetings all week. For more information, visit the school district’s website
