One of the first fast charge locations for electric cars in Oregon opened Monday at the Hollywood Fred Meyer in Portland.
ECOtality is a California-based company that specializes in electric transportation.
The company says its Blink DC Fast Charger can charge an electric car almost fully in 30 minutes.
Senator Jeff Merkley was one of the attendees at the event. He says it will be interesting to see how drivers use charging stations.
“We need to start with this model and keep going. One of the exciting things about this station and the others that are being deployed under this effort is that they’re going to be collecting data on how people use the stations. So we’ll start to understand if people really want to charge up only at home and at work or do they really want to get that fast charge while they’re shopping.”
ECOtality partnered with Fred Meyer and Pacific Power on its Portland locations. The company says it is planning to install 14,000 stations nationwide over the next three years.
