Eastern Ore. Wind Farm Clears Hurdle

A siting committee in Eastern Oregon has approved the construction of up to 134 wind turbines at the Helix Wind Power Facility.

The East Oregonian reports the state Energy Facility Siting Council overrode concerns from neighbors of the site that the wind farm would drive down their property values and create more noise than the project estimates.

The council directed the company behind the site, Iberdrola Renewables, to use the most conservative estimates in predicting how much noise each turbine will make.

The council also says it can’t legally address the issue of land values because no such requirement exists.

Iberdrola Renewables was directed by the council to contact all fire departments near the turbines and develop a coordinated response in case of a fire at the site.
