Hermiston Considers Food Cart Restrictions

Hermiston City Council members say they’ll take a look at restrictions on food carts.

The East Oregonian reports that most cities limit when and where mobile vendors can set up shop, and require business licenses — but Hermiston doesn’t.

Business owners represented by an advisory committee have complained that mobile vendors have unfair advantages over brick-and-mortar operations that face rent, property taxes and utility bills.

Mark Morgan, assistant to the city manager, said the city would have to be careful so that limits on vendors don’t have unintended consequences for the county fair, the Saturday Market or fireworks stands.
