Crews prepare to escort vehicles through the burn zone on Interstate 5 during the Klamathon Fire.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection is allowing traffic again on Interstate 5 Friday morning.

Rapid growth and spread of the Klamathon Fire Thursday evening led to the closure at the border with Oregon.

The fire was estimated at 8,000 acres with five percent containment as of Friday morning.

Oregon Department of Transportation is expected to escort several hundred vehicles through the burn zone beginning at milepost 11 south of Ashland.
