Gov. Kate Brown said Friday at the Pendleton Round-Up that she will run for governor in 2016.
Brown is currently finishing out the first two years of the term of former Gov. John Kitzhaber. The special election next year will elect a governor for the remaining two years.
Kitzhaber resigned in February and Brown ascended from secretary of state to governor. That meant Friday’s Westward Ho! parade was Brown’s first as Oregon’s chief executive.
“It doesn’t get better than this,” she said.
