Lewis & Clark Student Killed In San Francisco Shooting

A Lewis and Clark College student was shot and killed in San Francisco over the weekend, while at home on spring break.

Police in San Francisco say California law prevents them from confirming the victim’s identity, but the Associated Press has identified him as 19 year-old, Jacob Valdiviezo. Lewis and Clark officials say he was a sophomore.

Public information officer, Albie Esparza says the victim was walking home, early Saturday morning, with a friend.

“As the victim was walking home – he was about a block away – when a vehicle approached him, and the suspect got out of the vehicle. At that point, the suspect walked up to the victim, and asked him if he was in a gang. Then the suspect fired several times with his handgun, striking the victim in the upper body.”

Esparza says the shooter fled in a gray sedan.

Police are hoping for the public’s help in finding the suspect, who’s described as an Hispanic male, around thirty years old.

College officials are offering counseling to grieving students, and are enlisting student involvement in planning a memorial event later this semester.
