Duck fans will get a break this football season, when they travel to Autzen Stadium, the Lane Transit District said Monday.
LTD will not only expand the number of buses on the Autzen Stadium Express routes, it will lower the prices to the same level as regular bus routes, spokesman Andy Vobora said.
At its peak, LTD was able to allocate 50 buses for the game-day service. However, in 2008 the Federal Transit Administration’s Charter Bus Service Rule was created to protect private charter operators from unauthorized competition from FTA grant recipients, such as LTD.
“It became hard to provide shuttle services for events with the charter rules,” Vobora said. The number of buses that LTD used for the Autzen express service slowly dwindled.
Last football season, LTD was able to allocate only 24 buses for game day services.
Now, “LTD is establishing these Autzen bus routes as normal bus routes,” Vorbora said, with the same fares as other bus routes. And it will be able put 40 buses on game day service this season, he said.
Previously the round-trip fare for an Autzen Stadium Express bus on game days was $6 per person.
The new round-trip fare will be $3.50 for adults ages 19-64, and $1.75 for youth ages 6-18 and qualified Half-Fare Program participants. Seniors over the age of 65 and children under 5 can ride for free.
LTD group passes, monthly passes, day passes, ride tickets or Honored Rider cards also will be honored on the Autzen express routes.
LTD also will offer a season pass for use on game days, which may be used on any LTD route on game days.
Those prices are $24.50 for adults ages 19-64, and $12.25 for youth ages 6-18 and qualified Half-Fare Program participants.
Season Passes may be purchased at LTD.org under the “Buy Fares Online” button or at LTD Customer Services, located at 11th and Willamette. Hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
LTD said that, because of the high ridership demand, the University of Oregon will be supplementing LTD’s Autzen Stadium Express routes. “However, your fare will be the same regardless of what bus you ride,” LTD said.
