Cold weather set to hit the Portland metro area and the surrounding region later this week could bring a chance of snow.
A front of cold air is set to come into the region Friday night and again later this weekend, Shawn Weagle with Portland’s National Weather Service said.
“It’s going to be a very active pattern during the next couple of days,” he said.
It should be cold enough to produce snow on the valley floor, Weagle said, but if that happens, it will depend on the amount of moisture in the air.
“There’s still a bit of uncertainty as to how much moisture we’re going to get with that,” Weagle said. “If we get a lot of moisture with the cold then of course we have a little bit better chance of getting lowland snow, and of course if we stay drier, we’ll just be cold and breezy.”
It’s still a little too early for accurate forecasts, Weagle said.
“A lot could change between now and then,” he said. “But the way it’s looking right now, there’s definitely an increasing possibility of lowland snow, especially next week.”
Either way, the Cascades are expected to see significant snowfall starting Friday night.
