Oregon Leaders Preparing For Possible Pot Legalization

Oregon legislative leaders from both political parties already are preparing for the potential decriminalization of marijuana.

The Statesman Journal reports that members on both sides of the aisle are considering creating a committee that would examine the legal, financial and health ramifications of legalizing recreational marijuana.

Political analyst Jim Moore tells the newspaper that Oregon may have learned lessons from Washington state and could be trying to build a framework for legalization early.

Oregon voters rejected an initiative to legalize marijuana in 2012, but advocates say they plan to get the issue back on the ballot in 2014.
