At a sunny Saturday rally in Eugene that drew about 2,000 people, two Democratic members of Oregon’s congressional delegation promised to battle President Donald Trump and the ­Republican Party’s plans to alter health care in America.

The sizeable rally was one among a growing swell of such events nationwide as critics of the Trump administration look to voice their frustrations and try to stem the sharp changes in national policy that Trump seeks to make. Increasingly, such rallies focus on defending the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare after President Barack Obama. The 2010 law has ­broadened access to health care coverage across the nation. Trump has vowed to dismantle and ­replace the law.

Oregon’s junior senator, Democrat Jeff Merkley, and U.S. Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., spoke to the crowd at the Save Our Health Care Rally in a plaza on the Lane Community College campus.

“We have to resist this president with everything we got,” Merkley said. “Are y’all ready to join the fight?”
