Roughly 318 South Salem residents received empty ballot envelopes as the Marion County election day looms just two weeks away.

A mix up during the inserting process of approximately 188,000 ballots has left some residents, specifically those living in precinct 323 in Salem, with all election materials with the exception of an actual ballot.

“We have narrowed it down to all the people with last names that start with P, Q, R, S or T,” said Marion County Clerk Bill Burgess. “It can happen anytime when inserting too many ballots at a time.”

Fifty election workers were tasked to man a table that stuffed the outer envelopes with inner ballot envelopes, return sleeves, security sleeves informational inserts and ballots.
