Police and wildlife officials are actively searching for a mountain lion that has been seen in and around downtown Boise.
Idaho Department of Fish and Game officials believe the 70-pound juvenile male is the same cat that was seen picking at a deer carcass in the front yard of an east Boise home Friday night.
The cat was seen Monday near Boise State University, causing school officials to post a note on the website urging students to be aware. The critter was also seen near a grocery store closer to the downtown area.
Wildlife officials say it’s common for mountain lions to follow rivers like the Boise River or an irrigation canal into more urban areas. They say, however, it’s rare for mountain lions to stick around neighborhood areas.
