While some national reports have said the Sunday after Thanksgiving will be the busiest day for air travel, that’s not the case for Portland International Airport.

PDX forecasts this Friday to be the single busiest travel day for the rest of the year with more than 56,000 travelers expected to pass through the airport.

That’s more than estimated for the day before Thanksgiving (55,200 travelers) or the Sunday following Thanksgiving (50,300 travelers).

The airport said in a news release that the entire upcoming holiday week is expected to be especially busy. PDX estimates a total of more than 500,000 travelers will pass through the airport from this Friday to the Monday after Thanksgiving.
