Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler will oversee two city bureaus that had been handled by the late Commissioner Nick Fish.

Wheeler will take control of Portland Parks and Recreation along with the Bureau of Environmental Services.

In an executive order issued Tuesday, the mayor said Fish’s staff will remain at City Hall with similar duties.

Fish’s seat will remain empty until a replacement is elected, likely in the May 19 primary election. Portland City Council is expected to set the election date Wednesday.

Fish died of abdominal cancer last week. He had served in Portland City Hall for more than a decade.
