A pedestrian was struck by a car and killed early Thursday morning while trying to cross Interstate 84 in northeast Portland.

Portland Police responded to the scene at around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

Police said the driver who struck the pedestrian remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Investigators do not believe impaired or distracted driving were factors in the crash, Portland Police said.

Police do not know why the pedestrian was attempting to cross the interstate. The pedestrian’s name has not been released.

This is the first traffic fatality the Portland Police Bureau’s Major Crash Team has investigated this year.
