The National Weather Service said the bulk of the Portland metro area shows no signs of snow after dodging wintry forecasts this week.

The weather service said that snow has a small chance to mix with rain Thursday morning, but any real chances of snow are all but gone for the metro area. Friday could also see snow in the morning, but Portlanders can expect no accumulation.

The central Columbia River Gorge is expected to get some snow Wednesday night near Hood River and Cascade Locks. Temperatures in the Gorge will stay below freezing into the morning.

Forecasters warn that while threats of snow are basically over for Portland, morning commuters should watch out for possible black ice and icy roads on the west side into Washington County.

Black ice is a thin layer of ice that’s particularly hazardous because the road looks wet rather than frozen. The Oregon Department of Transportation recommends drivers increase their distance in between vehicles in these weather conditions.
