Salem, Willamette Valley Air Quality Alert Expires Today

The air quality alert issued by the National Weather Service extended earlier this week is set to expire today at noon.

Wildfire smoke from numerous fires in British Columbia, Canada as well as the Whitewater Fire near Detroit filled the Willamette Valley last week and deteriorated air quality for almost two weeks.

Meteorologists with the National Weather Service office in Portland say conditions will begin to clear the smoke from the area today and this evening as the area is set to see a cooling trend heading into the weekend.

Temperatures are expected to top out in the upper-80s today following by low-80s on Saturday and mid-70s on Sunday under increasing cloud cover.
