An explosion Tuesday afternoon outside of a public shooting range in Deschutes County resulted in the deaths of two people, according to the the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.
Deschutes County deputies, along with Oregon State Police and the Bend Fire Department responded to a report of an explosion at a gun range east of Bend about 3 p.m. Tuesday, according to a release from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s office.
First responders found two people were injured by an explosion inside a World War II-era tank just outside the shooting range, the sheriff’s department said.
The Fire Department gave medical attention to the injured, but the two people died. The agencies have not identified the victims.
Authorities said Tuesday that there is no further risk to the public.
The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police explosion investigators continue to investigate the cause.
