Simpson, LeFavour, Labrador Win US House Primaries In Idaho

Democratic U.S. congressional candidate Nicole LeFavour will face seven-term Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Simpson in November in Idaho’s 2nd Congressional District after they won their party’s 2012 primary elections.

Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Raul Labrador beat Reed McCandless in the 1st Congressional District’s Republican primary as Jimmy Farris led Cynthia Clinkingbeard in the Democratic primary.

In voting Tuesday, LeFavour beat token candidate Jack Wayne Chappell of Buhl.

Simpson bested tea party-backed Marvin “Chick” Heileson, who also ran unsuccessfully in 2010.

Though not running head to head, Simpson’s early vote totals show the challenge faced in the general election by LeFavour, a four-term Idaho state lawmaker.

With half of precincts reporting, Simpson’s 70 percent Republican support included 33,000 votes.

By contrast, LeFavour’s 82 percent Democratic support included less than 6,000 votes.
