A friendly dog and a drone turned out to be a bad combination for a Springfield, Oregon man, after a series of events sparked a grass fire.

Cameron Austin-Connelly, 31, was flying his drone shortly before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in a field at 28th Street and Marcola Road when a man walked by with two dogs.

The dogs were not on a leash, and one of them was being “overly friendly,” Austin-Connelly said, and jumped up on him, causing Austin-Connelly to drop the drone’s controller.

The drone spiraled rapidly toward the ground and crashed. A fire started.
