The faculty union at the University of Oregon has settled its first contract with administrators.
After ten months of bargaining, the United Academics at U of O has reached a tentative agreement with the university. It’s set to be ratified next month.
The agreement allows for salary increases of about 12 percent for tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenured instructors. Faculty bargaining team member Ron Bramhall said the wage hike is a step in the right direction.
“We think it’s a good package, and it gets us started on the road toward getting us closer to comparators,” he said. “Is it enough? No.”
Bramhall said the salary increases shouldn’t increase tuition for students, and the faculty has made suggestions on how to trim costs in other parts of the budget.
The agreement also allows for substantially more job security for non-tenured faculty and provides for merit-based bonuses.
A statement from UO president Michael Gottfredson calls the contract a “fiscally responsible agreement.”
