Athletes are competing for spots in the IAAF World Indoor Championships, which begins next week in Portland.

Several Oregonians including Olympic decathlon gold medalist Ashton Eaton, Olympic Marathon Trials winner Galen Rupp, and sprinter Jenna Prandini competed Friday.

Prandini advanced to the semifinals of the women's 60 meters and Rupp finished eighth in the finals for the 3,000 meters.

Meanwhile, Eaton exited the competition after standing in the wrong place at the wrong time. A crossbar hit him in the head following another pole-vaulter's miss, sending him home with six stitches. Eaton will still compete in next week's Worlds.

Nine finals in throwing, jumping and running took place Friday, with the rest slated for Saturday.
