Halling was shot during his arrest Thursday afternoon and is still hospitalized as he receives treatment. Officials say he has not yet been charged and is being detained in the hospital on warrants for unrelated parole and probation violations.

The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office says Halling has previously served prison sentences after pleading guilty to attempted assault and burglary charges. Oregon court records also show a criminal history dating back 20 years. Those include convictions for robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Last week's shooting took place after deputies responded to a homeowner's report that rifles were being stolen from a locked outdoor cabinet.

Officials declined to name the sheriff’s deputies who were injured. One was treated and released, while the other remains hospitalized.

Washington County's Major Crimes Team is asking members of the public to call its tip line at 503-846-2500 if they interacted with Halling in the weeks prior to Thursday's incident.
