Karie Fugett

Karie Fugett lives with her partner on a farm in Drain, Oregon. She's a farmer, wilderness survival instructor and professional writer. Since she has no internet connection at home, she usually spends her workdays at nearby libraries and coffee shops. But since the pandemic she's been working from her car and grabbing the Wi-Fi signal from a Taco Bell parking lot.

Still, the solitude of the farm has lent her pandemic experience something that most of us are lacking: a sense of peace, tranquility and appreciation for the beauty of a daily routine.

Karie Fugett recorded herself in conversation with OPB’s John Notarianni. The music is provided by Audio Network.

We want to hear about your experience during the pandemic. Tell us about your new reality, or nominate someone else. You can send us a voice memo. Email postcards@opb.org. And be sure to include your phone number.
