Shooting Victim Remembered: 'It Is Good To Know How Much Emilio Was Loved'

Reynolds High School freshman Emilio Hoffman died Tuesday when he was shot by another freshman student in the school’s gym locker room. On Wednesday, Emilio’s mother, Jennifer Hoffman, released a statement about her son and how he will be remembered by those who knew him. He is survived by his mother, sister and three brothers.

Emilio grew up in the Troutdale area and attended local public schools. He enjoyed science, history and sports, especially soccer.

“When he found soccer, that was it. Soccer was his whole life,” Jennifer writes.

Emilio played for the junior varsity team and was on two local soccer leagues. He also coached his younger brothers’ youth soccer team.

Jennifer writes that the family was humbled by the response at the candlelight vigil Tuesday night in Troutdale.

“It has provided comfort, and it is good to know how much Emilio was loved — not just by us, but by everybody,” she said.

Emilio loved his friends and will be remembered for his smile and laughter: “You couldn’t be around Emilio without laughing! Anyone who has ever met Emilio laughed with him.”

Jennifer also reached out to other parents in her statement.

“To the parents out there: Love your kids. Hug your kids every day. And live with no regrets. I don’t have any regrets with Emilio. None.”
