Governor Kate Brown has ordered Portland-based Bullseye Glass to cease and desist art glass operations involving a long list of metals.
The governor’s letter to Bullseye says the Department of Environmental Quality saw visible emissions that exceeded state law during a recent monitoring visit.
The company had previously shut down production of popular reds, oranges, yellows, and greens. A study of mosses in the area showed high levels of cadmium and arsenic present near the factory.
The order will affect metals used to make other colors, like cobalt.
It’s not immediately clear if Bullseye can continue production under the terms of the order.
The company was not immediately available for comment.
