To celebrate opbmusic’s 10th anniversary in 2018, we’re digging into the archives to bring out some favorite videos from our concert series Stagepass. In this 2015 performance from The Delines, Willy Vlautin’s lyrics place you in a crushing moment of heartbreak, realizing that the flame of love has died out. Amy Boone gives a deeply emotional performance that never hits a false note, and Cory Gray drives the hurt all the way in with an achingly melancholy trumpet solo. Simply put, it’s a beautiful, sad song.
We recorded this performance in 2015 at Mississippi Studios for our Stagepass series.
The 11-minute video includes Vlautin and Boone talking about songwriting and characters “with a few dents” in them. Or you can go straight to the song “He Don’t Burn for Me” at around 2:45 into the video.
Don’t forget to subscribe to our Youtube channel to see all the Stagepass performances we’ll bring back this year. If you’d like to attend a concert like Stagepass, join us for our anniversary concert March 23 at the Crystal Ballroom.
Willy Vlautin’s other band, alt-country group Richmond Fontaine, has a new release called “Don’t Skip Out on Me.” It’s an instrumental companion piece to his new novel of the same name, to be released on Friday.
