Guster’s eighth album, ‘Look Alive,’ drops on January 18. It’s the first new music in four years for the band. Their previous album ‘Evermotion,’ was recorded in Cottage Grove, Oregon with the late producer Richard Swift. On tour in 2015, the band played a soundcheck session with opbmusic, telling us they’d gone looking for musical freedom from constraints, and found it at Swift’s studio and a collection of more experimental songs. The new album promises further stretching of the Guster sound, starting with the title song’s production turns and percolating synth beats.
