London-based Lookman Adekunle Salami, known as L.A. Salami, is equally adept playing a full club or a quiet living room. On stage he’s a whirl of acerbic energy, eschewing guitar to throw himself into singing and leading his band in between asides to the audience. His songs are crowded with restlessness observations of modern life and indictments of modern urbanization, the treatment of refugees and race. Last year at SXSW, he joined us for a pair of house recordings, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar on songs that were arrestingly intimate and dark. One of the songs he played, “Long Lost Nobody,” was a previously unreleased song. This winter he released a new song, “Generation L(ost).”

L.A. Salami performs in Portland for the first time on Tuesday, March 20 at Mississippi Studios, with opener Cat Clyde. It’s a 21 and over event. Here’s how you can enter for a chance to win tickets:
