Lenore, the Oregon-based band fronted by songwriters Rebecca Marie Miller and Joy Pearson, is releasing a new single called “Thick Skin, Tender Heart” this Friday, Feb. 22, but we’re offering a sneak peak right now here at opbmusic.stripped-down version of the song is featured in the forthcoming Duplass Brothers film “Paddleton,” which also debuts on Netflix this Friday. Mark and Jay Duplass are best known for their work on the Rajneeshee documentary “Wild Wild Country,” feature films like “The Skeleton Twins,” and the HBO series “Togetherness.” Their new movie, which stars Ray Romano and Mark Duplass, is getting incredible reviews with near-universal praise from critics.
Lenore’s inclusion on the soundtrack was a fast and loose process, according to Miller who fielded a last minute request to submit music from a long-time friend who worked on the film. In Pennsylvania for her wedding at the time, Miller had no way to access the mastered audio of “Thick Skin, Tender Heart,” so she improvised.
“The best I could do was to make a phone recording,” she recalled to opbmusic. And to her surprise, that was the version they ended up using in the film. “Cheapest production of all time,” joked Miller.
Lenore are performing a single release show at The Old Church in downtown Portland on Sat., Feb. 23. They’ll be performing the fuller version along with a complete band that includes an all-star lineup of Edward Cameron (Y La Bamba), Jessie Dettwiler (Alameda), Austin Christ, and a string section that includes veteran musicians Dan Hunt (Neko Case), Patti King (Radiation City, The Shins) and Kyleen King (Heartless Bastards, Brandi Carlile, Swansea). Seattle’s Tomo Nakayama also performs.
Lenore are giving away a pair of tickets on their official Instagram account.
